Home Energy Assistance Program

(H.E.A.P.)

                              The Home Energy Assistance Program (H.E.A.P.) is a federally funded program that assists eligible households in meeting their home energy needs. This includes financial assistance with paying utility and oil bills for each heating season. You must also live in an eligible housing situation. This generally means that you must either pay directly for heating costs or must pay rent that includes heating costs. If you live in subsidized housing, you must pay heating costs separately from your rent. Individual applicants must be U.S. citizens or qualified aliens. Applications are taken at the local Departments of Social Services at the following locations:

                           The Orange County Office for the Aging provides assistance with HEAP applications for Orange County residents over the age of 60. Applications can be accepted through OFA and processed for an energy benefit through the Department of Social Services. To be pre-screened for HEAP, call our Central Intake number at (845)- 615-3700.   

         

Orange County Fuel Fund Can Help


The Orange County Fuel Fund assists households that are struggling to pay their energy bills, but do not qualify for the H.E.A.P. (Home Energy Assistance Program). The Fuel Fund can help cover a portion of the cost for fuel oil, natural gas, propane, wood, pellets, or electricity. Individuals whose household income qualifies them for assistance from the Fuel Fund will be eligible for a one-time award of up to a $585, which will be paid directly to the furl provider.
